The Social Media Relay

Day 1 · 9am–4:30pm4 participantsUp to 2 entries per school

Two rounds, one account, and everything runs through it! In the days leading up to VIBE, teams will create a dedicated account and work through a series of tasks including funny intros, trend reels, prep vlogs, a sponsor product brief, and a few wildcards. On the day, it becomes a relay across VIBE itself, where teams will move from checkpoint to checkpoint through the actual domain events, shooting content that captures what is really happening on the ground. Half of the score will come from the judges, and half from how the content actually performs.

Rules
  • Duration: Pre - event (10-14 days) + On the day (5.5 hours)
  • Number of participants: 4 (Max 2 entries per school)
  • Each team competes under one dedicated account, created for VIBE and used for both rounds. Personal accounts don't count.
  • All content must be the team's own work. No reposting someone else's edit, no using AI-generated video/images as the actual submission (AI tools for minor editing assistance are fine, the core content has to be shot and made by the team).
  • Every post must tag the official VIBE account and use the event hashtag to be counted.
  • Round 1: Pre-Event Tasks (10-14 days pre event)
  • Tasks are released on a fixed schedule. Late submissions after a task's deadline aren't scored, no exceptions.
  • Submissions are tracked through a group with the participants along with a social media volunteer and head from NEXT, where there will be an approval process.
  • No buying followers, using bots. Any team caught doing this forfeits that task's engagement score.
  • Any satirical task must stay lighthearted. Anything that reads as a genuine insult to a participating school/host school gets pulled and scored zero for that task.
  • Sponsor product tasks can be done using photos or motion graphics if the product hasn't been physically given to teams.
  • Sponsored products must not be portrayed negatively. If a piece of content seems like it is negatively showing the product, the team will lose points for that task.
  • Round 2: On the Day (Half Day)
  • Teams stay with their assigned volunteer for the entire route. No splitting up, no going off-route, no skipping ahead to a checkpoint out of order.
  • All the checkpoints still need to be completed, but only the checkpoints completed within the window will be scored.
  • Each checkpoint has a fixed time limit. Content not completed within that window is scored on whatever's finished at the buzzer.
  • Checkpoint content must actually reflect what's happening at that domain/location. Generic content shot elsewhere and passed off as a checkpoint submission is disqualified for that checkpoint.
  • Sponsor checkpoints require the product to visibly feature in the content. A brief that isn't addressed at all scores zero on Brand/Tone
  • Fit for that checkpoint.
  • One submission per checkpoint. No retakes once the team has moved on to the next one.
  • The content's engagement scores will be decided by the end of Day 2 and announced at the end of VIBE.

PR Crisis

Day 1 · 11:30am–3pm4 participantsUp to 3 entries per school

VIBE is in crisis! Maybe results get posted before the event is even over, a scoring sheet spirals into chaos, or a schedule typo sends an entire category to an empty room. Teams will have 2 hours to draft the public statement, script five replies to five very different commenters, and post the resolution, all from their own VIBE account. A live panel of judges will then stay in character and question each team. Funny is good, but losing control of the tone is not!

Rules
  • Duration: 3.5 hours
  • Number of Participants: 4 (Max 3 entries per school)
  • Teams will receive their scandal on the day of the event
  • All deliverables must be posted from the team's own VIBE account, not a personal account.
  • During the Response Window (0 to 2hr):
  • Teams have until the 2 hour mark to produce all three deliverables: statement, comment-reply script, and follow-up post. Late submissions aren't scored, but all the deliverables still need to be completed
  • Teams can only use the facts given in their brief. Inventing details that contradict the brief, or making up " facts
  • " to dodge the hardest part of the scandal, counts against Statement Quality.
  • The scandal stays fictional and centered on VIBE's own operations only: judging, scheduling, props, comperes, account activity. Teams can't rewrite the brief into something involving a real person, a real rival school, or a real sponsor by name.
  • Content has to stay lighthearted. If a team's statement or comment script tips into anything genuinely mean, mocking a real individual, or reads as an actual complaint rather than playing a bit, it's pulled and scored zero on that deliverable.
  • Live Panel (2hr to 2hr30): Each team gets a fixed 2-4 minute slot, no extensions.
  • Teams respond live, no pre-written answers read off a script; the point is real-time composure.
  • Panel members stay in character throughout; teams should treat the questions as genuine even though everyone knows the scandal is fictional.
  • If a team breaks character or drops the bit entirely, that's reflected in
  • Live Composure, not an automatic disqualification.
